Update

So, I have been a horribly unproductive and lazy man recently, Especially within updating my blog, I feel it has gone to waste a bit. Since being back in Bridport (my home town) for Easter I have been giving myself a bit of a break. Catching up with old friends and family has taken a bit of a front seat. I have done one shoot since I've been back. Although its giving me a little head ache editing the images down.

I think I will do a major update when I am back in my new home of Falmouth and I can fully plunge myself back into photography.

So anyway, as I havnt put an image up for such a long time. Here is an old image from the St Pirans day shoot. Because I was so pleased with my film images I forgot all about my digital ones from that day.

Redruth St Pirans Festivities

Today i travelled to the town of Redruth for their celebrations for St Pirans day (which actually isn't till monday, but they celebrated early). St Piran is the patron saint of Tin-miners and celebrated widely all over cornwall. He is also widely regarded as the patron saint of Cornwall.

I unfortunately couldn't get over to Redruth in time for the parade to the rugby club, but the Rugby club had much going on inside from 1pm, and then at 3pm it was Redruth vs Hertford rugby match which was a really good game. Redruth won the match 38-24 after initially going behind.

The whole day was quite bizarre as all the different things going on. A military display, some 'street' style dancing, a choir, children running around in martial arts clothing, a lazer tag arena, steam engined tractors, a brass band and all culminated by a good old game of rugby.
Whilst i was there I shot off 4 films for my Relationships project, and some digital images aswell.

Relationships 2

I took these images during the day of CSM vs RSM sports, firstly at the football and then at the rugby, the last two images were taken at the end of the 'tunnel', the show of respect rugby players give each other after each match where the teams walk through a tunnel made up by the opposite players shaking hands.
I have mixed feels about these images, I like the first two images, I feel like they are a very truthful portrayal of the CSM crowd that day. I especially the second image. I like the last two images due to the fact they are much closer and you feel apart of it more.
My reasoning behind the mixed feelings behind the images is purely down to the success of my first shoot. My first shoot went perfectly, and I produced a set of images which I think are possibly my best ever. I dont feel these are as good as my first shoot by any means, but the brief is that I have to submit three singular Relationship photographs from Three different shoots. I think I will have to find a subject, a group of people as nice as those at Chyan and feel as comfortable in the shoot to produce images to that quality again. Chyan was special circumstances, circumstances that are not easy to replicate when you have other briefs and heavy workload ontop of a taxing relationships brief.

What I am trying to say is Do I use one of these Images as a Relationships Image, leaving myself with 1 shoot to go for Relationships, or Do I scrap it and find something new?
All opinions would be gratefully received.

Relationships

Chyan community fields is actually a Farm, there are on average 15 people that live in their separate caravans, trucks and old busses. It is not a travellers site where people move on after a week or so, The inhabitants stay for long periods of time and make it their home. It is an alternative way of living. It is not completely self sustainable but large parts of it is. They charge their batteries for electricity via wind turbines that are on site and their water comes from a near by spring. Each person rents their part for a small fee, or if they choose can do around 8hrs volunteer work on the farm, such as the vegetable patches instead.

I made two visits to Chyan Community fields, firstly on Wednesday 15th February, for introductions and then on Saturday 18th I spent a day and night with the people that live on Chyan, documenting the small community and how they interact with each other. What I really took from the whole experience was how close they all are. As it is such a small community of like minded characters, they all seem so tight. In saying this they were all more than accomodating and welcoming, making me feel at home in the time I was there. I was slightly envious of their lifestyle, it felt to me as if their simpler way of living, was far more beneficial. They have everything they need, and can spend their time enjoying each others company in the evening. Enjoying the little things in life.

I am going to continue to document Chyan as a personal study, I have made friends there and I find it such a visually interesting place to study.

The website, I feel is a terrible representation of place it is, however if you are interested in looking
