Metro

I have been terrible at updating my blog recently,
I find negative scanning so tedious however with my new equipment I have been given it comes with a little mini scanner,
The quality isn't great but at least i can scan from the comfort of my own home.
Here is the first image I have scanned using my own equipment.

Wake Up Rhiannon

I wanted to practice use with a Metz 45 cl-4 flash that I took out of the university stores one evening, Previously that night I had taken some images of other people from my course however these were all just 'test' shots. When I returned back to my flat I decided I would knock on everybody's doors at 3am and capture them when they had just woken up. Rhiannon was the only one silly enough to open her door at this awful hour, and so then became my next mini photo project.

Hostile Environments

Myself and others on Press & Editorial went to do Hostile Environments training run by Blue Dot Saftey, This course enabled us to learn how to act in all different kinds of hostile situations that we might end up in as photojournalists today. There wasn't much chance to use a camera on the course as the days were mainly classroom based, and the night excersises we had to keep light to a minimum and therefore no flashguns. The images above were part of an exit a vehicle drill and getting to cover as quickly as possible. I included the portrait of Alex as I really like it. The morning light was beatufiul and the images all came out well.

Truro City of Lights

I went over to Truro for the lights festival on Wednesday 16th November 2011 with intention of shooting film for a 'community' project I was given. As usual, I took my digital along and switched between film and digital. I managed to get myself between the barriers and amongst the parade with a confident walk past the security and they just assumed I was official press for the event. I learnt a lot about the difficulties of shooting in the dark at speed without a flash, and made me realise how much I have to learn technically with photography. My film shoot came out very dark, and hasn’t worked, but i managed to salvage a few images I like from the digital side of things.
It is said as a photographer, if you enjoy your shoot more, it will show through in your work, unfortunately I really enjoyed this shoot, yet it isn't the best I’ve produced.

Paris

Here are some work from a couple of rolls I shot whilst visiting Paris in February 2011. These films remained undeveloped till last week when I came across them in a photography bag of mine. I was particularly excited to begin printing these. The first print of the homeless man with dog, I am very proud as I had to do a lot of dodging where the metro tunnel is and also the man's jacket. Under a straight print there would be almost no information there. The second image is of an illegal immigrant trying to sell bracelets to Japanese tourists on the steps up to the Sacre Coeur, they were unhappy about their photo being taken, but i managed to get the shot i wanted before running away! The third image is of two people from a small band playing in the underground. I shall continue to print when I have some free time on my hands.

Royal Mail Sorting office - Falmouth

After not feeling great about my Food bank shoot, I went to the sorting office and managed to get access. It wasn't so fun getting up at 5am, but once I got shooting I forgot the tiredness and really started to enjoy myself. As I only had my crit today I had only printed up ones that I liked before Guy had a chance to look at them. He told me he was surprised at the selection that I had gone for, so tomorrow I shall carry on with the images that Guy boxed out in red.

These Images are two of my favourite that I shot over the summer of 2011, These were taken in 'No10 Cafe Bar' in Bridport, Dorset. Although, I would like to take my career into the path of conflict and war photography, I have a huge love for Social documentary, I like to put humour into my shots, and take away the seriousness of British Culture, as I find far too many people take themselves too seriously, and much of Britain need to learn to be able to laugh at themselves.
