TIME's Best Portraits of 2011

As we currently have a portraiture unit (due 30/01/12 AHHH) it would be silly of me not to take a look at TIME's best portraits of 2011. I really like TIME's lightbox, although this portrait series hasn't really captured me too much. I'd say out of this selection my favourite images are from ''Beyond 9/11: Portraits of Resilience'' by Marco Grob. I really like the tonal range he uses, and the images are not too high in contrast with a lot of middle, grey tones. I think another reason this stands out to me from the rest is the subject and the reasoning behind it. I have never been a big fan of studio work with celebs, I find it hard to find any passion in it. I'm not saying these images are bad, they are essentially brilliant portraits, I just don't find too much inspiration from an image of Bono
